Leadership Development Course 

The Leadership Development Course is a dynamic 4-part hybrid programme commencing Q1 2026 designed to raise and release transformational Christian leaders who will influence their homes, workplaces, and communities for Christ. It is aimed at those with a desire to develop in their self-awareness, leadership competency and mindsets around leading upwards, and leading beyond positional authority.

Joining the formation students of SPTC, this module is open to anyone who can articulate what their leadership role is, and how they are planning to grow as a disciple of Christ.

 

Schedule & content

Runs 4 Thursdays from 3.30PM-6.15PM both online and onsite at SPTC.

DATE TBC – Calling and Purpose
What is my calling as a Christian disciple, and how does my leadership impact the world I’m called to? How do I decide on whether to stay or move when I struggle in my current environment?

DATE TBC – Vision and Culture
How do I provide a sense of vision and lead energized, effective teams? What can I do with under-performing, demotivated team members?

DATE TBC – Leading Upwards
How do I lead when I’m not fully in-charge? What can I do to influence decisions not fully within my sole control?

DATE TBC – Feedback and Learning
How do I grow in my ability to have difficult conversations, and build a culture of learning and trust within my team?

Abel Cheah is the Vicar at Holy Trinity Bukit Bintang, heads up Leadership Development at the Asia Pacific Hub, and teaches the Leadership Development module at St Paul’s Theological College.

Prior to joining the team at HTBB, Abel’s previous roles include being the Chief Operating Officer of Alpha Asia Pacific, National Coordinator of Alpha Malaysia, and Head of Regions for Teach for Malaysia.

Abel is married to Jacintha, who also pastors at HTBB.

Dato’ Sri Idris Jala, a globally recognized transformation expert, chairs PEMANDU Associates, a Kuala Lumpur consultancy specializing in public sector transformation and business turnaround.

As a former Cabinet Minister, he led Malaysia’s National Transformation Programme, earning international accolades for innovation.

Bloomberg listed him among the top-10 influential policy makers globally. Beyond PEMANDU, he holds key roles, including non-executive co-Chairman of Sunway Group, Chairman of Heineken Malaysia, and pro-Chancellor of Sunway University.

Lecturing annually at Harvard University, he shares insights on effective transformation with ministers and CEOs worldwide.

Leon Jala is Executive Pastor at Holy Trinity Bukit Bintang overseeing both its creative and digital ministries.

Prior to joining HTBB’s Creative Department full-time, he had been Vice President of Content Strategy for a consulting firm and a Copywriter for a leading global advertising agency.

With over 12 years of experience in brand and content marketing, Leon is passionate about using both creativity and data to spread the good news of Jesus far and wide.

Jacintha Tagal is a Deaconess and a Lead Pastor at Holy Trinity Bukit Bintang (HTBB) Church. Jacintha is married to Abel, who is the Associate Vicar at HTBB.

Prior to joining the team at HTBB, Jacintha worked in education in various roles: as a Fellow with the Teach for Malaysia Programme, in projects and strategy with a private education group, and as Head of Operations for St Paul’s Theological College Malaysia.

Abel and Jacintha have two sons, Levi and Lucas.

Archie and Sam Coates lead Holy Trinity Brompton in London, prior to which they were the Leaders of St Peter’s Brighton for 13 years.

Archie studied Theology at Oxford University, and was Associate Vicar at HTB before planting to Brighton in 2009. As well as leading the church alongside Archie, Sam pioneered the Safehaven ministry in Brighton, and now leads the Social Transformation team at HTB which works in the areas of homelessness, prisons, women and people who are displaced.

Archie & Sam head up the HTB Network of churches. Together they have 4 children.

Sarah Ong is a proud homeschooling kid and business graduate from Monash University. One highlight from her uni days in Melbourne were the Overseas Christian Fellowship (OCF) community where she led Bible studies and small groups, and grew a love for journeying with young people through life-on-life discipleship.

She ran an event space business with her parents for 4 years before joining Alpha in 2021. Sarah is currently assistant manager in People & Operations with Alpha Asia Pacific, looking into all things employee engagement, team culture, leadership development and managing Alpha Hub-wide events.

She serves on the 5pm service core team at HTBB and is pursuing a BA in Theology, Missions and Ministry with SPTC. She enjoys baking for family and friends in her free time, and her latest obsession is sipping craft tea.
